FertilityCare and NaProTechnology - Hungary

NaProTechnology and the Creighton Model FertilityCare System were presented at the University of Pecs, Hungary on Friday 25th Nov 2011.

The meeting was well attended by about 100 people comprising mostly Doctors and Nurses from the University.

We had an intiial address and opening remarks from the Director of the University Dr. BÓDIS József
who warmly welcomed the presenters and conference attendees.

Bishop BÍRÓ László gave a fantastic lecture on the Gift of Human Life and the Catholic vision of procreation. Man being made in the image and likeness of God cannot use techniques of artificial reproduction that are legitimate for animal breeding. He explained that when man loses his sense of faith he sees himself as a biological entity that may be subject to manipulation and is no more significant than other animals around him. Being children of God we have a supernatural and eternal destiny giving us great dignity and responsibility regarding our choices in life. He was delighted to see that a new approach to infertility was being presented that could give hope to many Catholic couples who feel abandoned by fertility specialists as they cannot avail of artificial reproductive techniques.

Dr. Boyle, Director of the FertilityCare Centres of Europe, presented "NaProTechnology (NPT) - A multifactorial approach to the chronic illness of infertility". Dr. Boyle invited the participants to consider that even if NPT and IVF were morally equivalent - which approach do you think best meets the needs of couples with infertility? Using medical principles and case presentations he made the case in favour of NPT and logically why this approach needs to be given greater consideration by fertility specialists. Dr. Tadeusz Wasilewski, consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist and fertility Specialist, gave an excellent presentation on his experience as an IVF Doctor in Bialystok, Poland for 14 years and his most recent experience working in NaProTechnology. He no longer offers IVF to couples in his care and he showed that his clinic's pregnancy rate is comparable or superior to what he previously achieved with artificial techniques. His data is still preliminary but complete results should be available by June 2012. A copy of his presentation is available HERE.

It is hoped that NaProTechnology will be available in Hungary in the near future. For information on traininng programmes in Europe see HERE.
