Family Planning

FertilityCare - The healthy choice

Audio (1 minute)

The FertilityCare System is highly reliable for Family Planning. We use a system of recording developed from the vaginal discharge recording system (VDRS) to accurately describe every type of biological marker associated with normal cyclical fertility and infertility.

The woman makes her observations on a regular daily basis as part of her routine hygiene every time she visits the lavatory.  After a few cycles these observations become second nature. They are easy to learn and understand with the assistance of a FertilityCare Teacher-Practitioner.  The FertilityCare Practitioner is a trained professional who can teach couples how to monitor their signs of fertility accurately and reliably.  This information can be used to either achieve or avoid a pregnancy as the couple wishes.  We have a list of approved FertilityCare Practitioners, which you may view by clicking here.

In June of 1998 the Journal of Reproductive Medicine published a study by Dr. Hilgers and Dr. Joseph Stanford  regarding the use effectiveness of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System for Family Planning.  1876 couples used this approach for a total 17,130 cycles in five different centres throughout the United States.  The method effectiveness and use effectiveness for Family Planning between the five centres was 99.5% and 96.8% respectively after twelve months.

This is as effective as any method of Family Planning including the oral contraceptive pill.  For an abstract of this study click here.

There are concerns regarding the safety of hormonal contraception. The risk of develloping breast cancer is increased among pill users and blood clots that are potentially fatal are more likely to occur.

Furthermore there is considerable concern regarding the Mechanism of Action of the Oral Contraceptive Pill. An excellent video is available HERE , which clearly demonstrates that at least some of the time "The Pill" works by preventing implantation after conception has occurred. This is an abortive effect which many couples and Physicians may find objectionable to use or prescribe. This medical fact is not usually explained to "Pill users".

The FertilityCare System has significant advantages over contraceptive approaches to family planning. Couples are empowered with the knowledge to understand when cyclical fertility is present and when it is not.  Using this information they learn to understand and respect their fertility and appreciate that this is a normal part of health and not some disease process that needs to be suppressed or controlled. If it is the couple’s intention to avoid pregnancy they abstain from intercourse during the fertile phase of the cycle which can last from six to nine days each month.  During this time of abstinence many couples describe a deepening of other aspects of their relationship.  Communication is enhanced and they learn to express affection in ways other than through genital intercourse. When the days of infertility return, couples often experience a new excitement and attraction with genital contact, similar to their honeymoon and this often described as the “honeymoon effect”.   Christopher West describes this well in his latest book "The Love that satisfies" as explained in the podcast HERE.

Many couples today complain of sexual boredom and in our experience this rarely happens when using FertilityCare.  The System assists in developing discipline and self-control in the area of sexuality.  Often the woman would feel more loved because her husband is willing to deny himself in the interests of her health and for building their relationship.  Men often find that the system enhances their ability to be tender and loving in a deeper way which may not happen if their wives were constantly available for genital intercourse.

If you would like to arrange an introduction session to discuss the system without any obligation of committing to the programme feel free to contact one of our FertilityCare Teacher Practitioners by clicking here.
